Zhongren FacilitiesThe Shanghai Charity Foundation began its series of Zhongren projects the same year that it was founded, in 1994, when groundwork began on the Zhongren Senior Citizens Home. “Zhongren” loosely translates to “A Show of Appreciation from the Public” and was designed as a way for the public to contribute funds to build facilities in order to support Shanghai’s underprivileged youth and the elderly. Currently, they are built with contributions from the local government, the SCF and a variety of charitable organizations. Since the first project, over 300 million yuan has been contributed to build four first-class facilities where over 10,000 of Shanghai’s most underpriviledged and disadvantaged senior citizens and youth have found a haven where they can rest, learn and contribute to society. This year, plans are underway to renovate the Zhongren Senior Citizens Home, which is nearly 10 years old.
